I've Lost Weight but my ____ is Still Flabby!

So you've been working out for months, Tracking your Progress along the way, and have seen great improvements overall. Your mood has improved, you lost 5 pounds, your waistline has dropped by two sizes, and life is good. But no matter how many bicep curls and bench presses you do, you still have those dreaded Goodbye Arms; that stubborn bit of flab under your arms that jiggle relentlessly when you wave goodbye. Why is this happening to you!?

The Myth of Spot Reduction

Spot Reduction is the idea that if you target one area of the body, in this case your arms, and keep working out that spot, you'll lose the body fat right there. Unfortunately, that's just not how the body works. No matter how many crunches you do, if you have belly fat (as 99.9% of us do), your ab muscles won't shine through without full lifestyle changes. Body fat works together throughout the body, for better or worse. Crunches will help build up ab muscle, but to lose that body fat in your stomach, you have to lose body fat everywhere across the body. The rate and order that your body burns fat varies for each person, and there is little way to predict it.

But don't lose faith! Keep working hard and develop a full plan of healthy lifestyle choices including eating right for your body, and a balance of cardio and strength training exercise. With time and effort, and good Goal Setting, your body will continue to tap into the energy stored in body fat, and continue to get rid of the flab you're aiming for. Keep tracking your progress, and work hard on your plan and soon enough you'll get to where you want to be.
