Boston, MA – June 2, 2006 – Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) presented Construction Management: Preparing The New Generation of Leaders, a daylong series of lectures from prominent professionals in the field. The event, organized by Wentworth Construction Management Professor Mark Hasso, was the first of its kind on a national basis, held in Watson Auditorium on May 31.
"If you don’t love what you're doing then my advice is get out," said Dick Fox, president of Camp Dresser & McKee Inc., a consulting, engineering, and construction firm. "I was able to get where I am today because I love what I do," he told the audience of Wentworth construction management students and professors, who attended for free, and local construction management professionals.
The second keynote speaker was Commissioner David Perini of the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management. Perini, a member of one of the most well known construction families in the country, reflected upon the construction management leaders he admired throughout his career and explained what made them great leaders. Perini Corporation has also provided generous support to Wentworth for the past three decades.
The other guest speakers included: Rich Martone, Senior Princiapal, PMA Consultants LLC and President of CMAA New England Chapter; Christopher Reseigh, President Parsons Brinckerhoff Construction Services, Inc.; Bruce D’Agostino, CMAA National Executive Director; Debra Rubin, Editor at Large Engineering News Record; Joseph Barra, Esq., Seyfarth Shaw LLP; Kenneth F. Johnson, Program Manager Harvard University Allston Project.
Construction Management: Preparing the New Generation of Leaders is an example of Wentworth’s commitment to academic excellence, community involvement, and economic impact. The Construction Management program at Wentworth is the tenth largest in the country and is continually striving to meet the demands of a changing industry. The conference was put together to adress three key factors: the development of project delivery methods, information technology in construction, and leadership and communication. Each of the speakers offered advice to guide the students toward achieving these goals on their way to becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
