Don't Work Hard - Work SMART!
Electronic Whiteboards

Don't Work Hard - Work SMART!
Have you ever wanted to save all of those notes that you wrote on a whiteboard or chalk board during a class? Would you like to be able to save those notes as text or post them on the web? Would you like to email them to your students as supplemental class notes or just save them for your personal records?

OIT has purchased a Smart Technologies Sympodium for use in Beatty 426. The Sympodium is a touch screen interface used in conjunction with an instructor's laptop and the LCD projector installed in the room.

The Sympodium allows you to add handwritten text annotations to existing documents (like PowerPoint or Excel files) or to create documents from scratch that are written but saved on your computer as a file. The Sympodium will also allow you to save these notes in various formats (html, pdf, jpeg, etc.). This will provide students with the exact board image that you have developed with them in Class and will support retention.

In addition, you can record actions that take place on screen and publish them as video files. Take a complex process in a software application and break it down into small, self-containing units that your students can review before coming to class or to reinforce class content.

Please attend one of our open sessions this month or contact T&D to schedule a one-on-one demonstration of this powerful learning tool.

Electronic Whiteboards

Electronic whiteboards are devices that can greatly enhance the way that we present, collaborate, and learn concepts and information. Electronic whiteboards work in conjunction with a computer and an LCD projector and replace the typical white viewing screens with which we are familiar. Electronic whiteboards, however, are touch sensitive screens that empower instructors with more options when presenting information.

The touch sensitive screen on the electronic whiteboard allows the instructor or presenter to simply “click” or “double click” on any tool or application by tapping directly onto the board itself. This includes icons, hyperlinks, and even application menus. Presentations and lectures can be made without ever needing to use a mouse!

In addition, electronic whiteboards allow instructors to draw electronically onto the board using various colored pens to make annotations to documents, review designs, or comment on class materials. These documents can then be saved into web format and published directly to a web site for future viewing.
