Traditional Learning
Traditional Learning takes place entirely in the classroom space. It is most familiar to us since it is how most of us learned from elementary school to college. In addition to the physical classroom, Traditional Learning also has an instructor, a student group and regular meeting times. In the Traditional Learning model, all interaction takes place within this framework.
Supplemental Learning
Supplemental Learning is similar to Traditional Learning, with the addition of some of the more commonly used educational technologies such as audio, video, computer software and the Internet. Often a course management system (CMS), such as BlackBoard Vista, is used. A CMS can serve in many ways, including delivering course content, administering assessments and fostering class communication. Technology can open new communication channels inside and outside the classroom, enabling the instructor to call upon a wider pool of resources. Supplemental Learning models allow a broader range of educational approaches.
Blended Learning
Blended Learning is the combination of Online Learning tools and techniques with traditional methods. Instructors use technology-based materials as well as face-to-face sessions and print materials. A large portion of the class work is conducted online.
Online Learning
Online Learning refers to computer-enhanced learning; in the sense of Distance Learning it is often conducted entirely on the Internet. It usually includes the use of web-based teaching materials, multimedia CD-ROMs or web sites and some of the many communication methods available today: discussion boards, e-mail, blogs, wikis, chat, and online video. A Course Mangement System is often utilized extensively.
