Frequently Asked Questions - Blackboard Vista 8
1. I can not log into Blackboard Vista 8. Your username is your lconnect username/email, e.g. smithj4. Your initial password is 654321. If you still can not log in, please contact the Helpdesk. They will be able to check if you have an account in Blackboard Vista 8 or reset your password. Because of the migration from WebCT Vista 3 to Blackboard Vista 8, there may be some lag time with your account. If you are logging on during semester break, please be aware that the Helpdesk will be closed until January 7th.
2. My Courses are not listed on the MyWentworth page in Blackboard Vista 8. This means you are not enrolled yet as a faculty member/student into Blackboard Vista 8. Because of the migration from WebCT Vista 3 to Blackboard Vista 8, there may be some lag time with your account. Please contact the Helpdesk and they will be able to enroll you into the sections you are teaching. Faculty see the courses in their Course List on the MyWentworth page in WebCT, but students don't. By default all sections are unavailable to students. If a faculty member chooses to use Blackboard Vista 8, OIT will change the availability dates so the section is available during the current semester to the students.
5. What does it mean when students are Access Denied. If you have students listed in your grade book that are not enrolled in your class, they should be marked with a red dot. This dot indicates that they have be registered previously, but dropped the class at some point. However, the system is not deleting them out of the section, only denying them access. From the student's perspective they will still see the sections, in which they previously were enrolled, but now dropped, in their course list on the MyWentworth page in Blackboard Vista 8. It is now only marked "access denied". This functionality allows Blackboard Vista 8 to preserve student course work, if they drop out of class during the semester.
6. Why is there a Demo Student listed in the Class List? This demo student should never be deleted. It allows faculty members to see the tab "Student Preview", which gives them a preview of how the students experience the course material.
7. How often are Sections backed up? UMASS Online, who is hosting the Blackboard Vista 8 environment for Wentworth, is backing up all sections once a week. At the end of each semester we will receive a CD-ROM with all sections taught during this term.
8. What happens to my Section Content after the semester is over? You will have access to any section that you have taught in Blackboard Vista 8. Noone else can access it. Courses that were taught in WebCT Vista 3 have been archived and may be reached via the WebCT logo on the Academic Resources tab on LConnect. If you would like your contents to be copied from a previousl section into a new section, please fill out the copy request form. Please make sure to back up any student records you may have in the online grade book via export to an excel spreadsheet.
