About the Office of Student Leadership Programs
Mission
The Office of Student Leadership Programs coordinates educational, social, cultural, and recreational experiences for students. These opportunities are designed and planned by, with, and for students to assist in self-understanding and development which create strong citizens of any community. Student Leadership Programs offers ways for students to explore leadership, teamwork, and knowledge of the world beyond the classroom. We strive to complement the academic learning of Wentworth through the same tenets of the Wentworth Creed – Honesty, Energy, Economy, and System.
Leadership
Leadership is the complex process of individuals or groups working together for a common purpose, by influencing others to accomplish a specific task or bring about change. Leadership includes roles such as leader and follower, and also interdependent relationships, experiences, and situations, resulting in the idea that anyone at any time can participate in leadership. Leadership is best when guided by values, appreciation of diversity, and ethics.
Leader
A leader is someone who seeks to become involved in their community by working with others for a common purpose. To be a leader, it is not necessary to hold an elected or appointed position, but instead only requires that one engages in the community. Effective leaders possess communication skills, decision making ability, and can successfully garner the trust and support of others.
Division of Student Affairs
The Office of Student Leadership Programs is a member of the Division of Student Affairs. As an educational partner in the Institute, the Division of Student Affairs is committed to engaging students in learning opportunities that augment their academic and personal growth. These experiences foster the development of students as contributors to their professions and to the greater community.
