Computer Science Student Jeromy Wendrick and the Game Development Club

Name: Jeromy Wendrick
Age: 20
Year of Graduation: 2010
Program: Computer Science (BCOS)
Hometown: Westbrook, Maine

As a dedicated member and co-founder of the Wentworth Game Development Club (WDGC), Jeromy is currently working with the club’s vice president to create a 3D platforming game similar to Super Mario 64 and the original Banjo Kazooie. The club is working on a few different projects, including a 3D survival-horror game in which the player controls the game’s character with a neural-interface device that reads brain waves.

What do you like best about your program?
My favorite thing about computer science is programming and developing. It is rewarding being able to create a working application. Many people don’t know what goes on behind the scenes or how to go about constructing a program.

Why did you select Wentworth?
I transferred from a school in Maine to Wentworth for a number of reasons. I really enjoy that Wentworth is in Boston, since it is a city with many great job opportunities for co-op and after graduation. Also, I selected Wentworth for the school size. Since my class sizes are small, I am able to connect with my professor and classmates beyond the classroom. Professors are also willing to collaborate on projects.

What are your co-op plans?
I am looking forward to starting my co-op in May. I will be working for AIR Worldwide, a provider of risk modeling software and consulting services. I hope to put to use the skill set I have learned in my classes as well as gain experience outside of the academic world. Career Services was very helpful in the job search, and my advisor went out of her way to help me on all occasions.

What are your future career plans?
Here at Wentworth, I am involved in the WDGC, and through this I have gained experience that will be very helpful in my future career plans. I would love to work as a game developer or something in a related field. My ultimate career goal is to run or own my own gaming studio in the Boston area.

Are you involved in any clubs, community activities, special projects, athletics or student leadership? If so, why do you participate?
I am a co-founder and the treasurer of the WGDC http://myweb.wit.edu/wgdc. My friends and I decided to start this club because we shared similar interests and wanted to create games together. Wentworth now has a state-of-the-art Gaming Lab where we have been working on many projects, like our video game submission for the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2009, a contest that challenges students worldwide to create technological
