Wentworth Interior Design Students Create Solution for Local Non-Profit

On Saturday February 9, 2008, members of Wentworth’s Student Association of Interior Design (SAID) participated in a charrette — an intensive design project where students are given a short period of time to synthesize and create a solution to a client's needs. Interior design students Nathan Reynolds, Natasha Tashian and Caitlin Putaski collaborated on the effort to benefit Mass Mentoring, the only statewide non-profit organization dedicated to expanding mentoring to meet the needs of youth across Massachusetts.

During the three-hour initiative, students tackled the redesign of Mass Mentoring’s office space. The organization’s goal is to make their existing workplace more efficient and functional, as well as provide a fresh look that will better represent their identity to their clients.

Kara Hanson, an alumna of Wentworth’s Interior Design program and designer for Dyer Brown & Associates, Inc., Architects, a major regional design firm, managed the student team. Representatives from Mass Mentoring, including Beth Tallarico and David Shapiro, came to assist the design process along with Professor Mikael Powell and Professor Dr. Nilgun Turan. The charrette proved to be very successful, and Mass Mentoring plans to fully adapt the design created by the students to improve their work environment.
