At Wentworth, we work hard to provide the very best health services.
In addition to expert primary medical care, we also offer
specialized services including counseling, disability services and comprehensive
health education.
Harvard Vanguard Student Health Services
Harvard Vanguard Student Health Services (HVSHS) provides primary medical care services
on campus to students enrolled at Wentworth. Students may use HVSHS for diagnosis and treatment of both short and long term illnesses and for preventive care.
HVSHS is located on campus in Watson Hall (003) and is open Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. –
6:00 p.m. Call 617-989-4070 to make an appointment.
HVSHS offers a broad range of primary care medical services. Most of these services are provided to Wentworth students at no charge, although follow-up specialty care and ancillary testing (labs, x-rays) are typically not covered and will be billed to the student or student’s insurance company.
The primary clinician at HVSHS is a Physician Assistant with extensive
experience in adolescent and primary health care. In addition, two medical doctors see patients at HVSHS
during the week.
Medical advice and information is also available by phone 24
hours/day, 7 days/week. This can be accessed by dialing the main
Health Services telephone number 617-989-4070.
Wentworth students also have access to medical care at Harvard Vanguard's Kenmore practice (133 Brookline Avenue) when HVSHS is not open. This would include:
Weekday mornings from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Weekday evenings from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Sundays and holidays from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
When using the Harvard Vanguard Kenmore practice, students should identify themselves as a Wentworth student by presenting a validated Wentworth photo identification card. Students are also encouraged to carry their insurance card.
In the case of a life-threatening emergency, students should
immediately contact Wentworth Office of Public Safety at
617-989-4444.

Student Health Injury
and Sickness Insurance Plan
Massachusetts law requires that all students who are enrolled for
nine or more credit hours per semester (or on Co-op) be covered by
health insurance. Most of the primary care services offered at
Harvard Vanguard Student Health Services are provided to Wentworth
students at no charge, although follow-up specialty care and
ancillary testing (labs, x-rays) are typically not covered and will
be billed to the student or student’s insurance company.
A Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is available through
Wentworth. The SHIP offers exceptional coverage at an
outstanding value compared to most options available to students.
For coverage details including costs, benefits, exclusions, any
reductions or limitations, please refer to the plan information
located at
www.uhcsr.com/wentworth or call 800-977-4698. The SHIP is underwritten by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Insurance
Company and administered by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources.
- All students who are enrolled for nine or more credit hours
per semester (or on Co-op) will automatically be billed for the
student insurance plan.
- If you are already covered by an alternate plan that offers
comparable coverage and would like to waive the college
insurance plan, you MUST complete the Health Insurance
Waiver which is located on-line at
www.srstudentcenter.com/wentworth by the billing due date
for the term in which the charge is applied (below). Once the
waiver is completed, the charge will be removed from your bill.
- Spring 2009 deadline: December 12, 2008
- Summer 2009 deadline: April 22, 2009
- If you wish to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan,
complete the on-line enrollment form located at
www.srstudentcenter.com/wentworth. You must pay the premium
in full by the bill semester due date.
- Any questions regarding the billing process should be
directed to the Student Service Center (617-989-4020).
- Wentworth requires international students to be enrolled in
the college plan (SHIP).
- Dependent coverage is available for dependents of students
who enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Rates for
dependents can be found on-line at
www.uhcsr.com/wentworth.
- The law does not recognize out of state Medicaid coverage as
comparable insurance although enrollment in MassHealth qualifies
for the waiver.
Students should know whether they have the college insurance plan
(SHIP) or a
family plan. If a student is covered by SHIP, Health Services knows
the policy number for the students. However, if covered by a family
plan, please be sure to:
- carry an insurance card,
- know under whose plan you're covered (mother, father,
yourself),
- know the name of the plan,
- know the policy number of the plan, and the address
