How is the Co-op program at Wentworth
setup?
It's a unique form of education that integrates classroom study
with mostly paid, planned and supervised work experiences in the
public and private sector. It allows students to acquire essential
practical skills by being exposed to the reality of the world of
work beyond the boundaries of the campus, enhancing their self-confidence
and career direction.

How long has Wentworth had a Co-op program?
Our program started in 1975 with 30 students. Today we have
close to 1,000 students per year going out on Co-op.

Who is required to do Co-op?
All full-time day students pursuing a Bachelor degree must
complete 2 required four-month Co-op semesters in their major.

How is the Co-op program at Wentworth setup?
After students have completed their second year, they are eligible
to do an "optional" Co-op semester. Transfer students
need to attend Wentworth for at least one academic semester before
they are eligible for Co-op. For students in the four-year program,
required Co-ops are scheduled for the spring of their junior year
and the fall of their senior year. For the five-year program, required
Co-ops are scheduled for the summer after their 3rd year and the
summer after their 4th year.

Do students pay tuition or fees while on Co-op?
There are no fees or tuition paid while students are on Co-op.

Why is Co-op so important to a student's
future career?
In one word: "marketability". Students not only graduate
from Wentworth with an excellent academic education but they also
have related professional job experience which is a major factor
in landing a full-time permanent position.

How are students assisted in finding
Co-op jobs?
The Co-op Office employs four full-time Co-op Coordinators
who work directly with the students in helping each one of them
locate and ultimately secure a Co-op position. Also, workshops are
conducted in "resume writing," "job search strategies"
and "interviewing techniques."

Are students paid for Co-op?
In most cases, yes. Salary is determined by the employer. Please

Can students do Co-op out-of-state?
Students can work anywhere in the U.S. or the world for that
matter. Most recently we have had students working in Bermuda, Japan,
Israel, Saudi Arabia, as well as California, Michigan, and Florida.

Where do students find Co-op jobs?
Typically, students find Co-op jobs in the city as well as
in the suburbs, in large and small companies, in New England and
beyond.

How are students evaluated during their
Co-op semesters?
There is a mid-semester evaluation form and a final, more detailed
evaluation completed by the student's employer at the end of the
semester. The student is also responsible for completing a self-evaluation
form and meeting with his/her Co-op Coordinator before a satisfactory
grade is awarded.
Can a student find a job on his/her own?
Absolutely. Once the student finds the job he/she must submit
a job description to his/her Co-op Coordinator for approval. Then,
if necessary, the Co-op Coordinator will make contact with the company.

Is the Co-op grade counted in the GPA?
The grade is not counted in the GPA. However, a passing grade
for each required Co-op semester is necessary in order to graduate.

What is the percentage of students who
find Co-op employment?
In the past, between 95-98% of Co-op students have found employment
every semester.

What options do students have after they
graduate?
After graduation students may chose to go directly to graduate
school or find full-time employment with: their past Co-op employers
or with different employers.

When students are ready to graduate,
what services are available to them?
The Career Planning Office has a number of services available
to graduating students and alumni. Our most successful programs
are our resume matching service, computerized job bank, the annual
career fair and on/off campus recruitment.
