Student Leadership Programs

The Office of Student Leadership Programs coordinates educational experiences for students outside the classroom. Social, educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities planned and created by, with, and for students assist in self-understanding and development which creates strong citizens of any community. SLP offers ways for students to explore leadership, teamwork, and knowledge of the world beyond the classroom. Through the same tenets of the Wentworth Creed: honesty, energy, economy, and system, we strive to complement the academic learning of Wentworth students to better prepare them professionally and for the world outside of WIT.

Clubs and Organizations
A student's academic experience is complemented by involvement in one of our many clubs and organizations. Joining a club or organization is one of the best ways to get to know people around campus, build your resume, learn more about your academic program, have fun, and gain valuable leadership skills. With over 40 clubs and organizations to choose from, there is something for everyone. To learn more about an organization, please click on the name of the club to link to their website, or contact the Office of Student Leadership Programs at 617-989-4080. You may also email us at getinvolved@wit.edu.

Tickets
Student Leadership offers discounted tickets to various events in the Boston area. Regular discounted tickets include Regal, AMC, and Showcase movie tickets for just $6. Other regularly stocked tickets include The New England Aquarium for $6 and Boston Museum of Science tickets for $5. We often have special tickets throughout the year, including Red Sox, Celtics, Blue Man Group, or a Broadway show in town. Check www.wit.edu/slp/tickets.html for ticket information and upcoming events throughout the year.

Wentworth Student Government
The official student voice of the Wentworth community, WSG meets weekly during the school year and invites students to join a meeting as well as contact any members of WSG.

The Leopard Print Newspaper
Managed and staffed entirely by WIT students, students are highly encouraged to become involved with the campus paper. Knowledge of journalism is not mandatory for involvement. The newspaper also offers work-study and non work-study positions as writers, photographers, and editors.

The Tekton Yearbook
WIT's official yearbook comes out annually and is completely created by students. There are a number of ways to get involved in producing the yearbook; it offers work-study and non work-study positions. Previous yearbook experience is not necessary to get involved.

WIRE, Wentworth's Internet Radio Experience
Launched in the spring of 2005, WIRE offers students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to artistically speak through music. When listening to WIRE, you will find a variety of different music spanning genres of classic rock, talk, and even heavy metal. WIRE also takes requests through IM at witwire. Community members can listen to WIRE through our community information server. WIRE is always looking for DJs and management.

WEB, Wentworth Event Board
WEB is the largest student run organization on campus. WEB works to build the campus community by offering fun, educational and diverse programs. The events range from comedians to monthly movies to concerts to trips and the annual Beaux Arts Ball. No matter what your interest is, WEB is here to serve all students.

Leadership Programs
Students at Wentworth Institute of Technology will have the opportunity to actively engage in a four year leadership program. It focuses on the four main values of the SLP Leadership Commitment; Active engagement, Open-mindedness, Awareness, and Collaboration.

Currently, students can enroll into the Emerging Leaders program to learn the basic skills necessary to be an effective leader and can then follow that with the Leadership Exploration Seminar, where they will learn the theory behind leadership and how to apply it. By 2007, students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of leadership opportunities as part of our (still in development) “Leadership in Action” series, including the Women's Leadership Institute, the Multicultural Leadership Summit, and the Outdoor Leadership Excursion. By 2008, students will have the option to partake in a capstone leadership course and/or be a Leadership Intern. Both programs will focus on students engaging in their community and putting to practice, what they have learned.
