About the Athletic Department
The Wentworth Athletic Department is founded on a philosophy that places a strong value on athletics as part of the total educational experience. We believe students develop skills for success in life through quality athletic programs — particularly those programs that help them develop as a whole person. Given this, Wentworth places equal emphasis on men’s and women’s sports. We support our student-athletes by providing top level coaching; high quality facilities; appropriate and safe uniforms and protective equipment; and competitive opportunities against student-athletes attending similar institutions. While the majority of our student-athletes have been recruited by those sports’ coaching staffs, over the years many students have had successful careers as “walk-ons” to their respective teams.

Wentworth’s athletic program competes as a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and is a member of both the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). As a Division III member of the NCAA, Wentworth abides by the NCAA Division III Philosophy Statement, which states that colleges and universities in Division III place highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of all students’ academic programs. We seek to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete’s athletic activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete’s educational experience, and in which coaches play a significant role as educators. They also seek to establish and maintain an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among their student-athletes and athletics staff. Consistent with Division III policies, Wentworth can not award any financial aid based on athletics ability.

Since 1989 the Leopards have captured 15 conference championships in the sports of baseball, men's basketball, hockey, golf, men's soccer, and men's tennis. In addition, Wentworth has earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III Tournament five times (1997 men's basketball; 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 ice hockey) in the last 10 years, as well as earning ECAC Tournament bids in baseball, men’s basketball, hockey, lacrosse, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer over the course of the last 12 years.

Individual student-athletes have garnered numerous all-conference, rookie of the year, and player of the year honors throughout Wentworth’s history, with five student-athletes earning seven CoSIDA Academic All-America ® honors within the last 11 years. One of our hockey student-athletes, Raj Bhangoo ’04, was named the school's first All-American in 2004.
