At Wentworth, we welcome home
school student applicants. We appreciate the fact that students educated
at home often possess the very qualities that are a good fit for the
educational value Wentworth provides: individualized,
hands-on/experiential, and career focused. We value the traits of
independence and self-reliance home school students demonstrate. At
Wentworth, we have two primary criteria for evaluating all applicants:
academic achievement and personal qualities.
Academic Achievement
We recognize that academic achievement is measured differently
within the home school student experience. Our admissions counselors
will work with you to determine the most appropriate method for you to
demonstrate your individual strengths and achievements. We require a complete high school transcript and certification of your home school program. Your personal
statement or essay, a required element for any application to Wentworth,
will be especially important coming from you as a home school applicant.
In addition to telling us about any extra-curricular activities,
part-time jobs, or community services you have performed, we would want to hear about your
reasons for choosing to home school. As with our more traditional high
school student applicants, SAT or ACT standardized test scores are
required. In addition, a portfolio, progress report, or credit
evaluation form may help illustrate your experience and achievements.
Personal Qualities
Personal qualities are reflected in the information in your
completed application – including your
personal statement or essay and at least one letter of recommendation.
We’re looking for students who are focused and motivated to succeed in
their chosen field of architecture, computer science, design,
engineering, engineering technology, or management. In addition, we’re
seeking students with an understanding of how a Wentworth program will
help them reach their individual goals. A personal interview is not required, but is another opportunity to discuss your academic interests and accomplishments with an admissions counselor.
The Admissions Process
Wentworth practices rolling admissions, which means we review each
application as soon as we receive all of its necessary components. While you can
apply any time, there is a priority deadline of February 15 for
the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Since some
majors and on-campus housing fill up quickly, we encourage you to apply
early.
A complete application includes:
- The application form and $30 application fee. We
strongly encourage online applications. Advantages to applying
online include: a reduced $10 application fee; the ability for you to
track the status of your application; and a more timely response to,
and evaluation of, your application by our counselors.
- Personal statement or essay.
- Recommendation (from an instructor or other
professional familiar with your academic abilities).
- High school transcript or course documentation.
- Official SAT or ACT scores.
- TOEFL score, if your native language is not English.
- Certification that you were home schooled and
satisfied all home school laws of your home state. (If you are not a
US Citizen or US Permanent Resident, please see our information for
International applicants.)
Optional application components for home school applicants include:
- Additional letters of recommendation.
- Informational interview (with an admissions counselor) and/or campus tour.
- AP exams or other standardized test scores.
If you have any questions about the admissions process, please
