Accreditation

Accreditation of an institution or program is a non-government, non-profit, self-regulatory, peer review process based on rigorous standards.  Institutions and programs are evaluated on how well they meet or exceed these standards, in light or their missions.  Accredited institutions and programs have shown that they have available the necessary resources to achieve their missions, are doing so, and give evidence that they will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

Because accreditation is a process of self-regulation, it requires that institutions engage periodically in a comprehensive and candid self-study of their own strengths and weaknesses.  This self-study is at the heart of accreditation, serving both external and internal purposes, i.e., quality assurance and institutional improvement  through rigorous self-analysis.

Wentworth Institute of Technology is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC).  Founded in 1885, NEASC is the nation’s oldest regional accrediting association whose mission is the establishment and maintenance of high standards for all levels of education, from pre-K to the doctoral level in the New England states.  See www.neasc.org for more information.

Wentworth’s next comprehensive evaluation visit for reaccreditation will be in Fall 2011 and the self-study leading up to it has begun.  See www.wit.edu/NEASC2011 for more information.
