GE Aviation Executive to Deliver Spring Commencement Address

Mike Sims, an executive and general manager for GE Aviation, will serve as the Spring Commencement speaker

Boston, MA—March 24, 2014—Wentworth Institute of Technology has announced that Mike Sims, an executive and general manager for General Electric Company, will be the commencement speaker for the Spring Commencement on April 26.

Commencement Speaker:
Mike Sims was named General Electric (GE) Aviation Lynn Area Executive & Supply Chain General Manager in August of 2012. In this role, he provides oversight for the GE-Lynn facility, in addition to GE Aviation’s combustors and large frames products. His organization generates approximately $2.5 billion in revenue and involves 10 global facilities, 4,000 people, and 100 customers. 

Mr. Sims started his career as a pilot in the U.S. Navy, spending six years on active duty.  He began his GE Aviation career in 1986 as a quality engineer. He went on to earn several roles of increasing responsibility in design engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and repair/overhaul.

He further expanded his talents with senior leadership roles outside of GE, serving as Senior VP of Distribution for Technicolor, and the President & CEO of Nexpak.  He rejoined GE in 2001 and has held a number of key leadership positions.

Mr. Sims holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, as well as a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
