Lecture to Discuss Actuary Work and Related Careers

The "What is an Actuary and What are Related Careers?" lecture will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Beatty 418 March 18.

If you are a person who wants to learn about risk analysis or if you are someone who likes the idea of financial analysis, this lecture will answer your questions. In a survey done last year, actuaries were the number one job in 2013, in terms of job satisfaction.

The following speakers will present:

  • Craig Jannino is the Health and Group Benefits practices leader for Towers Watson’s Boston office. Jannino is responsible for the revenue growth of the local practice including retaining and growing existing client relationships, generating new business, and building the team to support our client and prospecting needs. Jannino started his career as an insurance company actuary at New England Financial after getting a BS in Math from Northeastern.
  • Leo Zhang is an actuarial analyst in Towers Watson’s Health and Group Benefits practice in the Boston office. Zhang interned at Towers Watson between his junior and senior years at Colgate where we majored in Math and Economics and joined full time in June of 2012. Zhang has passed all Associate exams in the SOA and has moved onto the modules.

In general, speakers will talk about: what they do, how they got there, how they use mathematics in their professions, and advice for students. And sometimes speakers have job opportunities- so bring a resume.

Who is invited: All students, staff, faculty and guests. Parking arrangements for guests can be made if necessary. Typically, we have between 20-40 people in the audience so arrive early for a good seat.
