A July portfolio review event hosted by Career Services introduced job-seeking students to individuals from several high-profile architecture and design firms.
“Numerous connections for future co-op and full-time positions were made,” said co-op advisor Kathi Vander Laan, who coordinated the event with senior co-op advisor Bill Farrick.
In fact, more than 100 junior and senior architecture, interior design, and industrial design students had one-on-one meetings with thirty-five professionals, including nine alumni, from a wide range of companies like architecture firm Spagnolo Gisness & Associates, Steffian Bradley Architects, and toy and game manufacturer Hasbro. “The response was overwhelming,” said Vander Laan.
At the event, each professional shared a table with a student for 25 minutes. During that time, the student presented his or her portfolio and resume, while the professional gave the student feedback and advice.
The event ran later than planned, as students and professionals lingered in Watson Auditorium to continue conversations. Career Services plans to host the event again next year.
