Career Fair 2011
There were hopeful signs for the local labor market at Wentworth’s annual career fair in Tansey Gym on March 15.
Brightly colored tables and company banners lined the room while eager students flipped through pamphlets and brochures from their potential employers. The room hummed with animated conversations between Wentworth students and a career fair record 115 New England companies—up from 98 in 2010. Private and public sectors businesses from the fields of engineering, technology, design, and management packed the gym, looking for their next leaders. Sponsorship for the event rose as well, with eleven local companies—an increase of 7 from previous years—lending their support, including BOND, Shawmut Design & Construction, Enterasys Networks, HITT Contracting, RC&D, ConforMIS, eClinicalWorks, ENE Systems, J. Calnan, Philips Healthcare, and The Royal Crew.
“The job market is finally turning around for these types of jobs, and there’s a slow but increasing demand,” said Greg Denon, Wentworth’s director of career services. For the students, it’s not only good interview practice, but it creates real professional connections. Fair attendee Joseph Manzi, BCOT ’09, for example, said he met his current employer, Teradyne, at a Wentworth career fair. Manzi completed a co-op with the company and now works for Teradyne as an applications engineer.
“This is a great opportunity for students to get a feel for the industry and meet with influential and prominent companies in the field,” said Denon.
