Wentworth Secures Funds to Support Student Scholarship and Learning
Erland Construction and The Yawkey Foundation Provide Nearly $100k in Grant Money
Boston, MA – February 11, 2011 – Wentworth Institute of Technology today announced receiving grant funding from the trustees of the Kenneth Erland Froeberg Memorial Scholarship Fund and The Yawkey Foundation to provide scholarship money to undergraduate and continuing education students. The grant money will offer merit-based and need-based financial assistance to students in an effort to help them reach their educational and career goals.
Erland Construction, Inc., awarded Wentworth a gift of over $71,000 to establish an endowed fund, the Kenneth Erland Froeberg Memorial Scholarship, that will provide scholarships to incoming freshman students entering civil engineering technology or construction management majors. These three annual, merit-based scholarships of $1,250 will be awarded to students who have achieved high academic standing. The remainder of the fund will be used for scholarships in future years for incoming freshmen.
The Yawkey Foundation has awarded Wentworth $25,000 to assist students enrolled in the College of Professional and Continuing Education. Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded to 12 students who demonstrate financial need for completing their bachelor’s, associate, or certificate program. The College of Professional and Continuing Education helps adult learners achieve their education and career objectives through evening and weekend courses designed to be flexible in terms of the education delivery model, effectively fitting into busy lifestyles that include families and full-time jobs.
“Wentworth is extremely grateful for the generosity of The Yawkey Foundation and Erland Construction,” said Dr. Russell Pinizzotto, vice president for academic affairs and provost. “This commitment to and support of the Institute will contribute greatly to our students, lessening financial burdens and ensuring access to a high-quality education.”
