Mechanical Engineering and Technology Programs
Gain a solid foundation in both electrical and mechanical engineering, with an optional concentration in biomedical systems engineering. Students will apply high-level design and analytic techniques to complex projects as they bridge the interface between mechanical systems and electronic controls. Graduates of this five-year program go on to work in the fields of fiber-optic communication, computers and peripherals, transportation, alternative energy systems, biomedical engineering, robotics, manufacturing, and automated control systems. Students who complete their degree are well-positioned to pursue a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
The mechanical engineering curriculum balances theory, simulation and laboratory exercises needed to model, analyze, design, and realize physical systems, components, and processes. Key elements of this program include a curriculum with open-ended team-based design problems that may include students from other disciplines. These real-world experiences and practical problem-solving techniques are organized to stress a design/simulate/test development cycle. The program applies Wentworth’s educational model of a laboratory-based curriculum along with two cooperative work experiences to foster a state-of-the-art learning environment. Students gain the educational background necessary to pursue a professional career, including professional license registration and advanced degrees.
Mechanical Engineering Technology
Students explore mechanical systems and manufacturing processes as they study computer-aided design, math, and physics as well as specialized areas such as strength of materials, engineering graphics, and machine design. Graduates are qualified for careers in vehicle design, mechanical systems simulation, HVAC technology, automatic control systems, computer-assisted solid modeling, and power engineering. ***Please note this program is no longer accepting freshman or transfer applications.
