The goal of Wentworth Institute of Technology's Laptop Program — which began five years ago — was for every student to have a laptop by the Fall of 2009.
We have accomplished this goal! Wentworth will provide all first year Fall 2009 entering students with a laptop computer outfitted with the core suite of software used in their academic programs and the ability to download software needed for their particular academic major.
Students will keep their assigned laptop as they progress through the program from year-to-year. A scheduled period to receive a new laptop and turn in the originally assigned laptop generally occurs during a student's junior year. Students in our 5 year program keep the laptop they receive as a Junior until they graduate.
The implementation of the laptop program represents a shift from our centralized model based on computer labs to a decentralized mobile computing environment that can be closely integrated with each individual's work in the studio, classroom, workshop, library, and many other areas on campus.

Please note: DTS supports software from a technical perspective only (ensuring proper installation of the software) and not from a functional ("How to Use") perspective.
Users coming to the DTS Help Desk with operating systems other than the currently supported Wentworth operating systems (Windows XP SP3 and Leopard) and want DTS staff to install software on their laptops will be asked to have their laptops restored to Wentworth current specifications (currently supported OS) before any Institute authorized software is installed or downloaded.
DTS will not load software on privately owned computers, computers owned by graduates, or Institute computers having OS systems not supported by the Institute.
Microsoft Software Purchase Program for Students, Faculty, and Staff
The Division of Technology Services (DTS) and the Purchasing Department are pleased to announce our affiliation with Microsoft’s E-Academy. This is a widely used, discount purchasing program available to all educational institutions under the Microsoft Campus Licensing Agreement. Specifically, E-Academy is a web based program that allows Faculty, students, and staff to purchase Microsoft software applications at discount pricing, and replaces the former DTS practice of our preparing copies of certain Microsoft applications on disks that were provided to our community. Further, our participation in the program allows us to more easily comply with current Microsoft licensing requirements.
Please click here for access into the E-Academy web site. As always, please do not hesitate to contact the DTS Help Desk (617-989-4500) for more information or clarification.
