The Vital Link between Online Fundraising and Engagement
Nonprofit Quarterly highlights an interview with Eli Pariser, the executive director of MoveOn Pac about their successful approach to citizen engagement and fundraising. Their model uses online fundraising as one of many pieces that comprise member involvement.
The National Science Foundation is supporting a research project that focuses more attention on STEM faculty at community colleges. The research team from Ohio University gave an overview of initial findings, including that women in STEM faculty positions are community colleges are happier than those at 4-year institutions. Moving forward, researchers will be expanding research to other states and focusing on the experience of women in adjunct faculty jobs.

Grant Name: Supporting Universities to Partner Across the Pacific
Summary: The USAID Foreign Assistance for Programs Overseas program has funding available to support partnerships between institutions of higher education in Indonesia and the United States. The program aims to support five awards ranging from $650,000 to $1,000,000. Projects will support university partnerships that support STEM education at the secondary level through creating model secondary science and technology schools.
Eligibility: Any institutions of higher education with international programs, or universities that hope to start an international program are welcome to apply.
Dates: March 16, 2012 Application Deadline.

Grant Name: Drug Abuse Prevention Intervention Research
Eligibility: Any public school districts, nonprofit organizations, healthcare organizations and institutions of higher education are welcome to apply.

Grant Name: HIV Early Intervention Services
Summary: The Health Resources and Services Administration has funding available to provide highly quality early intervention services/primary care to individuals with HIV. Early Intervention Services must provide appropriate medical evaluation and clinical care and other essential services such as oral health care, outpatient mental health services, outpatient substance abuse services and nutritional services, and appropriate referrals for specialty services. Total program funding is $30,495,550 for an expected 58 awards.
Eligibility: Any institution of higher education or healthcare organization is welcome to apply.

FOUNDATION GRANTS OF INTEREST:
Grant Name: Sustainable Solutions to Hunger Innovation Grants
Summary: The AARP Foundation announced a new program to support their commitment to enhancing the lives of older Americans by helping to meet every day needs. The program aims to fund a diverse range of promising projects that help create long-term, sustainable solutions to problems faced by low-income adults who are 50 years of age and older. Projects can range from basic education to addressing social and behavioral aspects of problems that older Americans face. The program will award $1 million in grants ranging from $50,000 to $300,000.
Eligibility: Any nonprofit organizations including healthcare organizations and institutions of higher education are welcome to apply.
Dates: September 15, 2011 Letters of Inquiry Due.
