Over 100 years ago, Wentworth Institute of Technology was founded by the generosity of Arioch Wentworth, who wished to create a school “for the purpose of furnishing education in the mechanical arts.” Today, your support is an important component of the daily life of the Institute. Generous contributions from alumni, parents, and friends help maintain the level of excellence of a Wentworth education, and to support career growth and development of both our students and our alumni.
With educational expenses escalating nationwide, the responsibility of preserving and enhancing Wentworth’s distinction as a hands-on institution, while keeping tuition reasonable, is a challenge. Wentworth takes this responsibility seriously and has taken necessary steps to maintain the spirit with which the Institute was founded in 1904. Your support is the backbone of all that happens at Wentworth.
Where does your support go?
Although you are always welcome to support specific areas that interest you, we encourage you to give unrestricted dollars to the Annual Fund so that the Institute can direct your contributions where help is most needed. Investing in our students
Your support helps provide financial aid for over 75% of Wentworth’s students. Many of these students have your generosity to thank for giving them the opportunity to achieve one of the finest educations anywhere. Your support is also critical for Wentworth’s laptop program, which gives every student a new laptop upon arrival on campus.
Enhancing our programs and co-curricular activities

Expanding our academic departments
Your support is essential to help develop new educational programs, such as the creation of a graduate level program in architecture or the addition of a biotechnology curriculum that focuses on instrumentation. Your donations also help to support upgrades in facilities and equipment, including new computers and cutting-edge technologies for labs and studios.
Hiring and retaining the best faculty
The excellence of Wentworth rests on the ability to attract and retain the very finest faculty members and academic leaders. Your support helps us recruit and keep gifted, hard-working faculty. Professors and lab technicians have also benefited from the generous contributions of Wentworth donors, allowing them to improve their skills by attending professional development workshops.
Promoting alumni programs
Without you, there would be no reunion, alumni magazine, or alumni get-togethers. Your support also funds the President's Distinguished Lecture Series, which brings industry leaders to Wentworth to share their experiences with the entire Wentworth community. The speakers are key executives who represent a wide variety of disciplines (often with an emphasis on technology and innovation), and they provide practical, real-world perspectives on dealing with a host of leadership challenges.
Enriching the campus
Thanks to the support of alumni and friends, we have purchased countless books for the library, a new auditorium, an athletic field, new dormitories, campus-wide wireless internet access, improvements to make our campus facilities more accessible and appealing, and much more.
In the end, deciding to support Wentworth is a choice to invest in the future of an institution that strives to provide the highest-quality, hands-on education in technical fields. Many of our alumni choose to give back to the school because they received financial aid when they were students. Some, upon becoming very successful in their post-Wentworth careers, have decided to give back to thank the school that gave them the education they used to succeed. Others want to help prepare for future generations or remember Wentworth when making estate plans, while some make donations to honor a loved one or wish to bring something new to the Institute that wasn't here before.
