ELEC447 - Advanced Digital Circuit Design

Students learn the approach to designing complex digital systems described using schematic entry or hardware description languages. Circuits are synthesized, simulated and tested on programmable logic hardware circuits. Prerequisite: ELEC417, Embedded Computer Systems.

Course Objectives

  1. Mastering the basic VHDL language syntax and the use of VHDL for designing digital hardware

  2. Mastering the hands-on design, coding, and simulation with VHDL

  3. Understanding the Synthesis of VHDL

  4. Understanding the synthesizable subset of VHDL, but various non-synthesizable constructs in the context if test bench generation for debugging and design verification

Student Outcomes

(c) Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
