Flipside

Flipside is a utility that allows you to run the Windows environment and any Windows applications on a Mac.

Flipside

Click the Flipside icon on the dock.

To switch from Windows to Mac, Press the Start button while holding down the option key.

Right-Clicking with a Mouse

To get the same effect as right clicking, you can hold own the CTRL key while clicking with the mouse.

System Preferences

If you go to the Mouse/Trackpad page in System Preferences, you can turn on "Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click".

This allows you to tap the trackpad with two fingers side by side (but with a space in between) to get the "right click" effect.

Logging in to Blackboard

There are two ways to access the Wentworth Blackboard Vista environment:

UMassOnline

Option 1:

  • Go to http://bb.wit.edu
  • Select Wentworth Institute of Technology from the Institution List

Log In

At the Wentworth Institute of Technology Entry Page:

  • Go to the Blackboard Vista Welcome area.

  • Click the Log In button.

  • Logon to Blackboard using your LConnect Username (e.g. smithj)

  • The default Password is "654321".

  • Blackboard will prompt you to change password immediately.

  • It is recommended that you set your new password to your Active Directory password.

Option 2:

  • Go to http://lconnect.wit.edu

  • Logon as usual

  • Click on the Academic Resources tab - you will see a channel labeled Blackboard.

  • Logon to Blackboard using your Lconnect Username

  • The default Password is "654321".

  • Blackboard will prompt you to change password immediately.

It is recommended that you set your new password to your Active Directory password.

Setting System Preferences

You may need to change some of your computer's settings using System Preferences (this is the Mac equivalent of Control Panels on the PC).

  • Go to System Preferences under the blue Apple Menu in the upper left.

  • You can change settings for your monitors, screen saver, network settings, and much more.

Connecting to LCD Projector

You should start this process with the LCD Projector OFF.
If possible, also try to begin this process with the Macbook Pro OFF. It is not vital that you do so.

VGA Cable

Your Mac Macbook Pro should have come with a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter. If your Macbook Pro did not come with an adapter please contact the OIT Helpdesk at x4500.

  • Connect the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapte to the side of the Mac Macbook Pro.Connect the other end of the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapte to a VGA cable that is attached to an LCD projector.Turn on the LCD projector. Turn on the Macbook Pro.
Note: In most cases when the LCD projector and the Macbook Pro are turned on in this order the Macbook Pro will recognize that it is connected to an LCD projector and will begin projecting your image.

If this does not happen you then need to turn "Display Mirroring" on so that an image will be sent to the projector from the Macbook Pro.



Setting the Screensaver Timing for Presentions

Detect Displays
  • Top Toolbar
  • Click Display Icon
  • Select Displays Preferences

OR

System Preferences
  • Click the Apple in the upper left corner.
  • Select System Preferences to access it directly.
  • Window opens.
  • Click on Show All in the Top Toolbar.

Select Desktop & Screen Saver icon.

  • Desktop & Screen Saver Window opens.
  • Select the Screen Saver tab.
  • Set the time for "Never".
