Fire protection is the study and practice of mitigating the unwanted effects of potentially destructive fires.  Wentworth Institute of Technology offers coursework in fire protection technology, designed for those seeking to learn more about this exciting field, as well as for those interested in beginning or transitioning into a career in fire protection.

Each fire protection technology course is seven weeks in length and conveniently designed for busy adults, with evening meeting times that allow you to quickly gain career enhancing skills.

Course Descriptions

TFPC140 PRINCIPLES OF FIRE ALARM & SIGNALING SYSTEMS

This course will introduce the student to the essential elements of fire alarm and signaling systems, including automatic detection, alarm and signal processing, emergency notification, interfaces with emergency control functions, as well as addressing the relationship of both prescriptive and performance-based options in fire and building codes and standards.

TFPC130 WATER-BASED FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

This course will provide students an understanding of automatic sprinkler system and fire pump design, installation and testing and the various sources of water used to supply the systems. The students will be introduced to maintenance and troubleshooting of the system components.

TFPC150 SPECIAL HAZARD SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

The course will provide students an understanding of the various options for systems that are available when automatic sprinkler systems are not a viable alternative.
