Season In Review
With just two seniors departing the program after a 5-8 campaign in 2007 and one of the top players in the conference returning, the 2008 Wentworth men’s tennis team looked to take a step forward and have as much success as it did in 2006 when the program set a school record for wins with nine.
The season did not start as anticipated, however, as the Leopards dropped their first three matches – including two in conference play. A 5-4 win over Gordon on Apr. 2 gave Wentworth its first triumph of the season, but the Leopards would drop their next three matches to stand at 1-6 overall and 1-5 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference play.
Facing not making the post-season, the Leopards won their next three matches, with two coming in league play, to improve to 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the league. With the two conference wins Wentworth would clinch a berth in the conference tournament. However, an 8-1 loss at Colby-Sawyer to end the regular season snapped the three-match winning streak and ended the regular season with a 4-7 mark.
For the second consecutive season Wentworth had to travel to Roger Williams for the opening round of TCCC Tournament. The Hawks, who would eventually reach TCCC finals, took an 8-1 decision from the Leopards, ending the season at 4-8.
Senior Ricardo Robiglio (Buenos Aries, Argentina) closed out his career in style, posting a 9-2 record at number one singles to hold a career record of 39-8. For the fourth consecutive season he was honored by TCCC as a first team all-conference performer in singles play.
Sophomore Dan Alexander (Merrimac, Mass.) and freshman Ross Lyons (Madison, Conn.) each won four singles matches for Wentworth. Alexander was also 6-6 in doubles play.

Looking Ahead
The Leopards lose a pair of seniors from this past season's squad and the building blocks are in place for Wentworth to continue to be competitive within the framework of TCCC and be in the hunt for its first title since 1990.
