Season In Review
Coming on the heels of one of the most successful men's tennis seasons in the program's history in 2006 (9-4), the 2007 squad had its sights set on improving upon its overall record, as well as competing for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.
The season started off strong as Wentworth would dispatch of its first two opponents, Mitchell and Nichols, by 9-0 and 8-1 scores, respectively. However, Wentworth would hit a rough stretch dropping four matches in a row. Two of those matches were by 6-3 scores, while another was by a slim, 5-4 margin. The Leopards would win three of their next five matches, two of which were against conference foes which would clinch a tournament berth for Wentworth.
After losing by a 5-1 score against Roger Williams in the regular-season finale, the Leopards would face the Hawks three days later in the CCC Tournament. Wentworth would see its season come to an end with an 8-1 loss, closing the season out with a 5-8 record.
Junior Ricardo Robiglio (Puerto Ordaz, VENEZULA) paced the Leopards, as he went undefeated in the nine matches he played in, all at number one singles. Freshman Daniel Alexander (Merrimac, Mass.) and sophomore John Kelly (Rutland, Vt.) each had six-win seasons, while junior Andrew Fournier (Millis, Mass.) won five matches.
In doubles play, Alexander and Fournier teamd to win four matches, while Kelley and senior Phillipe Richer (St. Jerome, Que.) and Robiglio and senior Ryan Edwards (Stowe, Vt.) each won three matches in their respective pairs.
Post-season honors were bestowed upon the Leopards as Richer was honored as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Robiglio was a First Team All-CCC selection in singles, while Edwards earned Honorable Mention All-CCC honors in singles. The two also teamed to earn First Team All-CCC honors in doubles play.
