BOSTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Evelyn Hadden (North Smithfield, R.I.) scored two goals, while classmate Erika Hackett (Exeter, N.H.) tallied once and added an assist as the Wentworth women’s soccer team scored four unanswered goals to win its second straight contest, a 4-2 win over Curry in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.
The visitors would tally first when senior midfielder Jennifer Trama (Thompson, Conn.) crossed a ball to sophomore forward Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, Mass.), who headed the ball into the net at 7:07. A little over two minutes later, sophomore forward Brooke DeLuca (Duxbury, Mass.) would chip a shot into the back of the net to give the Colonels a 2-0 lead.
At the 34:27 mark, Hackett would bring the Leopards within one when she converted a penalty kick. Junior forward Katie Brown (North Brookfield, Mass.) tied the game at 2-all at 39:21 with an unassisted goal.
The game would remain tied until Hadden converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute to give Wentworth a 3-2 lead. Hadden would tally an insurance goal 2:50 later when Hackett crossed a ball to her that she headed into the net.
Freshman Kirsten Vallone (Avon, N.Y.) made five saves to pick up her third win of the season. Senior Danielle Denham (Framingham, Mass.) made four saves for the Colonels. Wentworth held a slim, 14-12 shot advantage, including 8-4 in the final 45:00.
With the win, Wentworth improves to 3-5-1 (3-2-0 TCCC) and hosts Gordon Saturday at 1:00. Curry (6-3-0, 3-2-0) sees its five-game win streak come to an end and is at New England College on Wednesday afternoon.
