PAXTON, Mass. – Senior guard Ed Bolton (Silver Spring, Md.) connected on 9-of-18 shots, including five three pointers, en route to a game-high 24 points, while classmate Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) added 16 points of his own to go along with four rebounds and four assists as the Wentworth men’s basketball team cruised to a 90-46 win over Anna Maria in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
The Leopards (11-8, 5-4) scored the game’s first 11 points and 13 of the first 16 points and never looked back, at one point in the first half shooting as high as 70 percent from the floor, while holding their hosts to just 17 percent. Wentworth’s largest lead of the half came on a Bolton jumper that put the Leopards up 49-23 at the break. Sixteen of Bolton’s 24 points came in the opening stanza, while sophomore forward Shane West (Saco, Maine) had 10 first half points. The Leopards shot an impressive 20-for-32 (62.5 percent) from the floor, while holing the AmCats (8-13, 2-7) to just 9-for-30 (30.0 percent).
The second half saw more of the same, with Wentworth maintaining a lead that ranged from 21 to as high as 46. While the Leopards’ shooting cooled off (41.2 percent), they held Anna Maria to just five second-half field goals—including not allowing a field goal over the final 10:00—and just 20 percent shooting from the floor.
Including Bolton and Prezzie-Blue, four players tallied double digits for the Leopards. West had 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Matt Abbott (Falmouth, Mass.) added 11 points of the bench. Wentworth held a decisive 43-29 advantage on the glass and scored 24 points off of 20 Anna Maria turnovers. While both teams got to the free throw line an equal number of times (18), Wentworth hit 17 from the charity stripe.
With four conference games remaining, the Leopards presently hold a one-game lead for the eighth and final playoff spot and will host Nichols on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. That same night Anna Maria travels to Roger Williams for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
