Sandini Earns Spot on HCBL All-Star Team
(July 2) Junior pitcher Chris Sandini (Upton, Mass.) was named to the 2009 Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Team, as voted on by the league's coaches, league personnel, and local Major League Baseball scouts. Sandini, who pitches for the Kauai Menehunes, is 0-2 with a 2.60 earned run average in three appearances (all starts). The 2009 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year has struck out 13 batters in 17.1 innings of work. The HCBL All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, at 11:30 a.m. local time.

Mullowney Named Head Men's Volleyball Coach
(June 25) Rob Mullowney, Assistant Men's Volleyball Coach at Newbury College last season and third-year Head Women's Volleyball Coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy, has been named the head men's volleyball coach, effective immediately. (more)

Four Inducted Into Wentworth Athletics Hall of Fame
(June 13) Four individuals who distinguished themselves throughout their time at Wentworth Institute of Technology became the newest members of the Wentworth Athletics Hall of Fame.  The four – Sarah Bearse ’05 (soccer), Raj Bhangoo ’04 (ice hockey), Glenn Gussis ’03 (baseball), and Jamie Weiss ’03 (ice hockey) – were inducted as a part of the ninth annual dinner and induction ceremony Saturday evening at the Watson Hall Auditorium on the Institute’s campus. Follow the Leopards on the Diamond This Summer
(June 9) Two members of the Wentworth baseball program will have busy summers, as junior pitcher Chris Sandini (Upton, Mass.), the 2009 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, will be playing for the Kauai Menehunes of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League, while assistant coach Billy Sittig is serving as the pitching coach for the Saratoga Phillies of the New York Collegiate Baseball League.

Leopards Eliminated From ECAC Tourament
(May 6) Despite clawing back from a 6-1 deficit to tie the game at 6-all in the fifth inning, the Wentworth baseball team saw the 2009 season come to a close with a 13-7 loss to Fitchburg State in the 2009 ECAC Division III New England Baseball Tournament. The sixth-seeded Falcons belted six home runs, which would account for 10 of their runs. Junior Pete Oggeri (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and sophomore Jake McManus (Hopkinton, N.H.) each had three hits and drove in two runs. Senior Nick Cunningham (Pembroke, Mass.) had a pair of hits and ends his career with a school-record 137 hits. Wentworth finishes the season with a 22-18-1 record. The 22 wins are the second-most in the program's history.

Spring All-TCCC Honors Announced
(April 30) Seven Wentworth Institute of Technology student-athletes, one coach, and the Leopard softball team have all been recognized with post-season accolades from The Commonwealth Coast Conference.  In the sport of baseball, junior Chris Sandini (Upton, Mass.) earned TCCC Pitcher of the Year honors as well as earning First Team All-TCCC honors.  Lacrosse senior midfielder Chris Wesche (Holden, Mass.) was named TCCC Co-Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to his earning Second Team All-TCCC accolades.  Wentworth’s softball team, which earned the conference’s team sportsmanship award, saw sophomore catcher Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass.), senior second baseman Krista Kelley (Medford, Mass.), and senior shortstop Kim Cabral (San Antonio, Fla.) were all named Honorable Mention All-TCCC, while head coach Bob Long (Brockton, Mass.) earned TCCC Coach of the Year honors.  Senior John Kelly (Rutland, Vt.) and freshman Nate Gove (Scarborough, Maine) of Wentworth’s men’s tennis team earned Honorable Mention All-TCCC honors as a doubles tandem.
