Associate Professor, Mark Pasnik Appointed to Boston Art Commission
Associate Professor Mark Pasnik of Wentworth Institute of Technology’s College of Architecture, Design, and Construction Management has been appointed by Mayor Thomas Menino to the Boston Art Commission (BAC), the organization that oversees all public art projects on City property. Pasnik will help guide the development of new artworks being designed and installed within the city limits, drawing on his expertise as a curator, architect, and educator. His involvement on the BAC will allow him to challenge design students with studio projects that are shaped by his experiences.
“I am excited to be the newest member of the country's oldest municipal art commission,” said Pasnik. “The Boston Art Commission has been transforming itself in recent years to bring innovative and thoughtful artworks to communities and neighborhoods throughout the city. I am honored to be a part of that process and to help artists and the arts gain a stronger presence in my hometown.”
“The newly appointed members of the BAC possess a wealth of experience in the arts and the community that will serve our neighborhoods well,” said Mayor Menino in an announcement by the Mayor’s Office. “The BAC not only beautifies our city, it ensures that the diversity of our people and communities is celebrated in a very public way. I look forward to enjoying, along with all Boston residents and visitors, the world-class installations this commission will curate.”
In addition to being an associate professor at Wentworth, Pasnik is an architect and principal of the multidisciplinary firm over, under where he has worked on urban, architectural, and design projects nationally and internationally. He is a co-director of the pinkcomma gallery, which has produced more than two dozen exhibitions on architecture, design, publishing, and urbanism within the gallery and in conjunction with the Boston Society of Architects at BSA Space. He has authored three books and served as a member of the Rotch Travelling Scholarship committee and the editorial staff of the journal Assemblage. Pasnik was educated at Cornell University and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Pasnik will serve a five-year term on the Boston Art Commission’s board.
