Committees

There are many ways that you can make a difference on or off campus!  WAA Committees work closely with the Board of Directors and Office of Alumni Relations throughout the year to continue building a strong relationship with the Wentworth Community.  WAA Committees are open to all Wentworth constituents!   Not only is it a great way to be involved and network, but committees are also a perfect fit for Wentworth constituents who wish to be involved and do not live local, and/or cannot commit to a WAA Board of Directors position.

Long Range Planning Committee

The Long Range Planning Committee works to align the plans and goals of the Wentworth Alumni Association with Wentworth Institute of Technology as a framework for board activities.  The committee’s responsibilities include: 

  • Develop a long-term plan to be used as a guide for board activities
  • Publish and revise the plan annually
  • Incorporate WAA scholarship into the long-range plan

Permanent Funds Committee

The Permanent Funds Committee ensures the proper and efficient management of WAA funds.  The committee’s responsibilities include:

  • Manages permanent fund’s portfolio in accordance with long-range financial plans
  • Act as liaison between board and outside financial consultants
  • Make/change recommendations, based on information from financial consultants, for board approval
  • Incorporate WAA scholarship and reunion gift funds into long-range financial plan
  • Work with the Alumni Relations Office for the internal operations budget

Communications Committee

The communications committee enhances and maintains efforts related to publicizing and promoting the Wentworth Alumni Association (WAA), its events and its public agenda. The committee will also:
  • Provide an up-to-date status to the alumni on the school and related activity
  • Promote the institution through publicizing alumni achievements
  • Stimulate active, life-long alumni participation with the school and the WAA
  • Facilitate updates and ensure the content accuracy of the alumni website
  • Work across WAA committees to ensure the consistent brand messaging of the WAA

Alumni Engagement

The Alumni Engagement Committee works on developing and building relationships with alumni through various programs and events.  The committee is responsible for: 

  • Creating, implementing and promoting WAA sponsored events, such as the Annual Networking Event
  • Works with the Communications Committee on the promotion of WAA events
  • Coordinates resources with the Athletics, Communications, Regional Chapters, and Student Relations Committees as required

Nominating Committee

The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to interview prospective board members, and acquire/ handle the collection of resumes and information from prospective candidates.  The committee’s responsibilities include: 

  • Interview prospective board member candidates
  • Recommend a slate of candidates in accordance with the deadline set by the WAA by-laws
  • Keep records and solicit biographical information for all candidates

Athletics Committee

The Athletics Committee coordinates annual alumni sporting events, including soccer, baseball, volleyball, hockey and basketball games.  The purpose of the Athletics committee is to use Wentworth athletic events and/or facilities as a means of involving alumni with Wentworth.  The committee’s goals include: 

  • Serve as liaison between WAA and the Athletic Office
  • Work with the Athletic office to strengthen the ties with athletic alumni team members and WAA.  This includes WAA board members to attend alumni athletic events such as Basketball, alumni hockey and any homecoming receptions to foster the development of alumni to serve both the Athletics Department and the WAA.
  • Chair or serve as a representative on Wentworth’s Annual Golf Tournament committee

Awards Committee

The purpose of the Awards Committee is to recognize outstanding alumni and friends of Wentworth and its community through awards in several categories. These responsibilities include:
  • Solicit nominations for annual Alumni Awards
  • Recommended slate of candidates to WAA Board
  • Revise and/or recommend improvement/changes of the award categories
  • Plan the event where the Awards are disseminated
  • Keep records of all correspondence, follow-up ups, and award winners

Student Relations Committee

The Student Relations Committee strives to close the gap between students and alumni.  Our goal is to make connections with the Wentworth Student body throughout their time at the institute and therefore build a strong relationship with the Alumni Association thereafter.  As we usher graduating students into the Wentworth Alumni Association it will create a more cohesive community. The committee’s goals include: 

  • Hold several student and alumni events on campus throughout the year with the intent that these events will increase alumni involvement upon graduation.
  • Serve as the board’s liaison with the Office of Student Leadership Programs, Wentworth Student Government, and the student population
