Home Schooled Student Admissions
At Wentworth, we welcome home school student applicants. We appreciate the fact that students educated at home often possess the very qualities that are a good fit for the educational value Wentworth provides: individualized, hands-on/experiential, and career focused. We value the traits of independence and self-reliance home school students demonstrate. At Wentworth, we have two primary criteria for evaluating all applicants: academic achievement and personal qualities.
We recognize that academic achievement is measured differently within the home school student experience. Our admissions counselors will work with you to determine the most appropriate method for you to demonstrate your individual strengths and achievements. We require a complete high school transcript and certification of your home school program. Your personal statement or essay, a required element for any application to Wentworth, will be especially important coming from you as a home school applicant. In addition to telling us about any extra-curricular activities, part-time jobs, or community services you have performed, we would want to hear about your reasons for choosing to home school. As with our more traditional high school student applicants, SAT or ACT standardized test scores are required. In addition, a portfolio, progress report, or credit evaluation form may help illustrate your experience and achievements.
Personal qualities are reflected in the information in your completed application – including your personal statement or essay and at least one letter of recommendation. We’re looking for students who are focused and motivated to succeed in their chosen field of architecture, computer science, design, engineering, engineering technology, or management. In addition, we’re seeking students with an understanding of how a Wentworth program will help them reach their individual goals. A personal interview is not required, but is another opportunity to discuss your academic interests and accomplishments with an admissions counselor.
Additional Application Components
Wentworth practices rolling admissions, which means we review each application as soon as we receive all of its necessary components. While you can apply any time, there is a priority deadline of February 15 for the fall semester. Since some majors and on-campus housing fill up quickly, we encourage you to apply early.
Optional Additional Home Schooled Components:
- Home School Student Supplement (available to Common Application applicants only)
- Certification that you were home schooled and satisfied all home school laws of your home state. (If you are not a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident, please see our information for International applicants.)
- Any AP exams or other standardized test scores
- Additional letters of recommendation
If you have any questions about the admissions process, please contact one of our Admissions Counselors.
