Wentworth Named a "Best In The Northeast" College by The Princeton Review

Boston, MA – September 23, 2008 – Wentworth Institute of Technology has been named one of the best colleges in the Northeast by The Princeton Review. For the second consecutive year, the education services company selected Wentworth as one of 212 institutions it recommends in its “Best in the Northeast” section on its PrincetonReview.com feature 2009 Best Colleges: Region by Region. It also profiles the Institute in its book, “The Best Northeastern Colleges: 2009 Edition.”

In its two-page profile of Wentworth, The Princeton Review highlights the Institute’s practical, hands-on approach to learning, the importance of the cooperative education program for gaining real-world work experience, and the overall recognition graduates receive from industry. Students acknowledge that a Wentworth education “is about knowing everything there is to know about your major, then going out in the field and doing a co-op to fully understand it.” As a result, “students are highly regarded in their fields due to [having] real world job experience upon graduation.” Students describe the Institute as a school that provides “a mix of hands-on learning and academics” and that the “learning environment is more geared toward students moving toward becoming young professionals.”

Says Robert Franek, Princeton Review's vice president, publishing, “We commend all of the schools we name this year as our 'regional best' colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs. We selected them based on institutional data we collected from several hundred schools in each region, our visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of independent and high school-based college advisors whose recommendations we invite. We also take into account what each school’s customers – their students – report to us about their campus experiences at their schools on our 80-question student survey.”

The 212 colleges The Princeton Review chose for its "Best in the Northeast" website designations and “The Best Northeastern Colleges” book are located in eleven states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont, and in the District of Columbia.

The Princeton Review survey for this project asks students to rate their own schools on several issues -from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food - and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in its Best Colleges: Region by Region or in its “The Best Northeastern Colleges” book.
