Wentworth’s Construction Management Program Launches Entrepreneurship Lecture Series

Jay Cashman Kicks-off Program

Boston, MA – February 8, 2008 – Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environment has launched the construction management program’s third entrepreneurship lecture series. The weekly guest-lecture program provides students the opportunity to hear leading design and construction industry executives discuss and share experiences and perspective related to the start up, development and finance of a construction business. The five-speaker series is organized as part of the ‘Construction Business and Finance’ course and is open to all members of the Wentworth community.

Jay Cashman, president and founder of Jay Cashman, Inc., was the first speaker to participate in the lecture series. He offered valuable advice and shared personal and professional experiences to the nearly 100 students in attendance. Cashman addressed key aspects of owning a construction business, discussing business growth and how to identify trends that will move a company into different markets, capital formation, business strategies, the importance of building a strong engineering team, and how to be an effective leader. In addition, he challenged the students to become strong players in the construction business and the important role they play in changing the business.

“Hearing directly from these entrepreneurs and industry leaders is an incredible honor and learning experience for our students,” said Mark Hasso, Professor of Construction Management and Construction Management Program Coordinator. “Each speaker’s background and business story is unique, and they have been successful at engaging students in conversations around business practices and concepts, as well as offering valuable advice that our business-minded and entrepreneurial students can leverage as they enter the workforce.”

The upcoming schedule of lectures is as follows:

  • February 12: Wayne J. Griffin, President/Founder, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc.
  • February 19: Tom Clark, President/Founder, Ashling Construction, Inc.
  • February 26: Thomas M. Payette, President, Payette Architects
  • March 4: Roy Greenwald, President/Chairman, Donovan Engineering & Construction
