Boston, MA – November 2, 2007 – Wentworth Institute of Technology today announced Patrick Hafford has been appointed as the new department head for humanities, social sciences and management. Hafford has been an assistant professor of management at Wentworth since 2003 and has been serving as the interim department head since the spring semester of 2007. In his new position, Hafford will drive the program’s concentrations in communications, project leadership, and management of technology.
“Our students learn the application of management theory and are well-prepared to compete in the global economy,” said Hafford. “The program leverages Wentworth’s leadership in technology and design education, providing increased educational and career opportunities in these fields and beyond.”
The Wentworth management curriculum integrates analytical, strategic, and behavioral skills that address real business problems. The courses are all taught by full-time faculty, who also serve as mentors to the students. The program combines contemporary theory with hands-on management experience by student participation in three semesters of cooperative education. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn a bachelor of science in management.
In addition to enhancing the curriculum of the program, Hafford intends to maintain a focus on integrating service learning and civic engagement into the curriculum, providing exciting, innovative learning opportunities that connect students, faculty, and community in hands-on learning projects that extend outside of the classroom.
Hafford has served in several leadership and management roles throughout his career. Prior to teaching at Wentworth, he was vice president of operations with International Data Corporation. Hafford is also the president of Veridea Consulting, Inc., a management consulting firm in Holliston, Mass.
