Boston, MA – September 17, 2007 – Wentworth Institute of Technology announced the appointment of Richard Fontaine as the new Vice President for Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO). He will lead technology efforts for the Institute, playing a key role in maintaining and advancing an efficient and effective technology environment.
Fontaine brings a comprehensive understanding of and superior skills related to, academic and administrative technology and the importance for disparate systems and functions to communicate and integrate seamlessly with one another. In his new role, he will carefully assess and balance short-term needs with a strategic approach to optimizing the Institute’s use of technology in the future.
“The primary goal of technology in higher education is to enable a student-focused, learning-centered environment,” said Fontaine. “My vision is to enable the learning community by empowerment and collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and administration.”
Over the past 32 years, Fontaine has achieved a high level of success in leadership roles in technology positions at the Community College of Rhode Island, Bridgewater State College and Boston State College. He earned his MAS in Computer Science and Information Systems from Boston University (’80) and his BS in Mathematics from Bridgewater State College (’75) where he graduated summa cum laude. He has also participated in advanced education programs, and is actively involved in many industry committees, professional associations, community activities and conferences.
