Renowned Engineer John J. Tracy Delivers Inspiring Commencement Address
 

Boston, MA – August 20, 2007 – Wentworth Institute of Technology celebrated the graduation of 453 students during its Summer Convocation ceremony, which took place on the quadrangle of Wentworth's campus on Saturday, August 18, 2007. Graduating students earned a Bachelor of Science degree, a Bachelor of Architecture degree, or an Associate in Applied Science degree. (See photos.)

Honorary Doctor of Engineering Technology degrees were conferred upon John J. Tracy, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations and Technology, The Boeing Company; and upon David B. Perini, Commissioner of the Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM), Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The ceremony included the academic processional, conferring of honorary degrees, recognition of outstanding students, student address, presentation of graduates, conferring of degrees by President Zorica Pantić, and the commencement address by Dr. Tracy. He delivered an inspiring address to graduates, faculty, staff, family and friends, in which he recognized the important career paths Wentworth graduates will pursue in the future. Dr. Tracy clearly communicated the impact of engineering and science to the country and the world, and highlighted advancements and milestones across various industries. Finally, he encouraged the Institute’s graduates - the leaders of tomorrow - to take risks and be innovative as they confront the challenges of the 21st century.

The student address was provided by graduating senior Kathleen Kennedy from the Architectural Engineering Technology program; Jill Moretti from the Architectural Engineering Technology program served as the student marshal; Krystle Foley and Nicole Makris of the Interior Design Program were standard bearers; and Mitchell Lahar, Architecture ’09 and member of the Colleges of the Fenway Orchestra, sang The National Anthem and the Alma Mater.

As part of the ceremony, several students received graduate recognition awards. Michael Leigh Grant, Computer Science, received the Beatty Award for achieving the overall highest academic standing. Alumni Awards, which recognize outstanding graduates representing each academic program, were presented to the following graduates: Anthony P. Samale, Architectural Engineering Technology; Douglas Evan Malone, Building Construction; Eraklis Anastasiadis, Civil Engineering Technology; Christopher J. Newbert, Computer Engineering Technology; Phillip M. Berenz, Computer Network and Information Systems; Jennifer L. Couture, Computer Science; Christopher J. Crowley, Construction Management; Labi Shrestha, Electronic Engineering Technology; Erin M. Michaud, Facilities Planning and Management; Thomas Y. Im, Industrial Design; Matthew LaCorte, Management; Emily J. Avis, Mechanical Engineering Technology; and Terence M. Gower, DPCS, Project Management. In addition, Dr. Pantić recognized the following students as outstanding contributors to the Wentworth community: Michelle Jose, Civil Engineering Technology; Vincent Spagnuolo, Management; and Raymond Cherry, DPCS, Project Management, as well as outstanding student-athletes Cheyenne Noble and Ryan Singer.
