Wentworth offers Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Discovery Program

Summer Program Targets High School Students Motivated in STEM Fields

Boston, MA – April 10, 2007 – Wentworth Institute of Technology today announced the launch of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Discovery Program for Summer 2007. The three-week program was developed to inspire students’ interest in math and science subjects and their applications in the engineering professions, introduce students to some of the tools they will need to excel academically in science and math, and expose students to the professional opportunities that can be pursued by studying STEM subjects.

This exciting and motivating experience in the science and engineering fields is being offered to qualified high school students interested in STEM, and will consist of academic content representing the professions of mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, civil engineering, computer science, math, and the sciences.

“Through a combination of class-work, laboratory experiments, and exposure to professionals in the STEM fields, students will have a unique opportunity to explore and discover their interests in a variety of scientific and technical fields,” said Sandeep Dilwali, academic department head of electronics and mechanical at Wentworth Institute of Technology. “The STEM Discovery Program will provide a valuable learning experience for motivated high school students, and advance their academic and career interests.”

Through close collaboration with local businesses, professionals, and industries in these fields, the program will supplement classroom and laboratory experiences with guest lectures, discussions, field trips, and hands-on projects, with a goal to inform students on the professional opportunities that can be pursued in the STEM fields.
