Wentworth Celebrates and Hosts International Education Week Events

Focus on the Global Exchange Environment Between the United States and Other Countries

Boston, MA – December 1, 2006 – Wentworth Institute of Technology participated and hosted several events associated with International Education Week (IEW), which took place during the week of November 13-17. The four events hosted and attended by Wentworth administrators and academic leaders recognized the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. Discussions were focused on education models, opportunities for change in higher education, cooperative relationships among countries, and student and faculty exchange programs.

"We are honored to host such a distinguished assembly of education leaders from across the world," said Dr. Zorica Pantic, President of Wentworth. "The programs enabled a sharing of ideas to help identify and leverage best practices in teaching and learning, as well as further advance our commitment to globalization."

Event highlights include:

  • Wentworth hosted overseas education advisors from Australia, Columbia, Guinea, Macedonia, St. Lucia, and the Ukraine for a discussion on education models, which included the institute’s hallmark co-op program and state of the art laboratories. The advisors were part of a U.S based training program arranged in conjunction with Bunker Hill Community College, Suffolk University, and the University of Massachusetts.

  • Presidents and vice presidents from the Sichuan Province in China visited Wentworth to learn more information about the institute’s educational model in an effort to assist them in redefining higher education in the Sichuan Province. A video presentation in Chinese about Wentworth was followed by an engaging discussion among participants, which was lead by Dr. Kuei-wu Tsai, vice president of academic affairs and provost of Wentworth.

  • Dr. Tsai attended a video conference entitled "Meeting the Challenges of International Education in Taiwan" at Suffolk University. Participants included approximately 35 Ministry of Health officials and administrators from local Taiwan universities, members from the American Chamber of Commerce Study USA Committee, and international educational experts. As Taiwan is the sixth largest source of international students in the U.S., the focus of the discussion was on new types of cooperative relationships between the U.S. and Taiwan.

  • President Pantic met with Vladimir Ivanovich, vice president of international relations, Bryansk State Technical University, from the Ukraine to discuss cooperative opportunities for Wentworth and Bryansk State Technical University to work together and participate in faculty and student exchange programs.

  • IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S Department of State and the U.S Department of Education which offers an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange.
