Season In Review
After losing two of its top players to graduation from a team that went 6-6 and qualified for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament in 2005, Wentworth’s women’s tennis team looked to maintain its competitive ways and work toward improving its standing within the CCC. Unfortunately for the Leopards, 2006 was turned more into a rebuilding year as Wentworth finished 2-10 overall and missed the CCC Tournament with a 1-8 record.
After dropping their first four matches of the season, including falling to perennial powers Salve Regina and Colby-Sawyer, Wentworth finally notched its first win of 2006 with a win over Newbury. The win streak was extended to two with a win over Eastern Nazarene, but that would be the last win the Leopards would see for the season, as a six-match losing streak, including losing to eventual CCC Champion Roger Williams, closed out the season.
Freshman Angela Brandt (Northport, Maine) and junior Ivana Manobianco (East Boston, Mass.) tied for the team lead in singles wins, as each posted four. In doubles play, seniors Sothea Chhun (Providence, R.I.) and Lauren McGuire (West Sayville, N.Y.) won two matches playing number one, while sophomore Alex Dupnik (Shamong, N.J.) and junior Christina Snyder (Pattersonville, N.Y.) teamed to win two matches wile playing at number two doubles.
Chhun played number one singles in all 11 matches she played in, playing competitively all season. Her hard work was acknowledged when she was named to the All-CCC Team as an honorable mention selection.
