Beverly, Mass. –Kellie Lajoie (York, ME/York) and Erica Hunt (Colchester, VT/Colchester) each tallied goals for Endicott College, as the Gulls defeated the Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Endicott opened the contest by applying consistent pressure on the Wentworth defenders. The Leopards, who entered Saturday’s TCCC showdown riding a four-game winning streak, were able to keep the Gulls off the board as freshman goalkeeper Kirsten Vallone (Avon, NY/Avon Central) stood strong in the early going.
Endicott broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute when Caitlin Flynn (Southold, NY/Mattituck) put a corner kick into the box that was redirected by Allyson Bellemore (Manchester, NH/Manchester West) onto the foot of Kellie Lajoie. The Gulls’ sophomore buried a quick strike into the top right corner to put Endicott ahead, 1-0.
The Blue and Green capped off the scoring in the 61st minute as Erica Hunt gathered a rebound off the post from a Margreta Weber (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) shot, beating Vallone to the short side for the 2-0 victory.
Endicott goalkeeper Amy Meuse (Saugus, MA/Saugus) earned the shutout win as the junior backstop made four saves in the winning effort. The Leopards’ Kirsten Vallone turned away nine shots in the loss. Endicott out shot Wentworth, 18-7.
With the win, Endicott improves to 7-4-0 overall and 6-1-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The setback drops the Leopards below .500 at 5-6-1 (5-3-0 TCCC). The Gulls return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they continue their seven-game home stand with TCCC and cross-town rival, Gordon College. Wentworth looks to rebound on Tuesday as they host Salve Regina University at 6:00 PM.
