SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Dale Totman (Conway, MA) scored the game-winner in the 20th minute to lead the Western New England College men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) match Monday (Sept. 17) at Suprenant Field.
Senior goalkeeper Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT) received a rare assist on the play when he delivered a long kick down field after making a save that bounced right to Totman who took two touches and fired home his second goal of the season from approximately 20 yards out.
Ironically, Hennessey was selected the TCCC Player-of-the-Week earlier in the afternoon after allowing only one goal in three matches last week.
Western New England College out-shot Wentworth by an 11-5 margin as Hennessey finished with three saves. Senior goalkeeper Joe Simon (Pittsfield, MA) stopped four shots for the Leopards.
WNEC improved its record to 5-1-1 and remained unbeaten in the conference at 3-0. Wentworth had a two-game win streak snapped in falling to 3-2 (1-1 TCCC).
