BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Nine different players soccer for the Buccaneers Thursday night in a 10-7 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology. Sophomore Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) had two goals and three assists on the night for the Bucs.
MMA jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one period of play on goals by Matt Sullivan (Marshfield, Mass.) and Burke. The Leopards tied the score early in the second period on a goal by Cory Benulis (Victor, N.Y.), but goals by Daniel O'Brien (Weymouth, Mass.) and Bryan Sears (Scituate, Mass.) put the Bucs back on top 4-2.
Two more goals by the Leopards and one by Ryan Linn (Bourne, Mass.) for MMA gave the Bucs a 5-4 lead at halftime.
MMA exploded for five goals in the third period to put the game away. The Leopards made a run in the final period with three goals, but determined MMA defense held off the Wentworth rally to preserve the win.
Joe Harding (Dedham, Mass.) and Matt Cox (Granger, Ind.) each had a pair of goals for the Leopards, with Harding adding an assist.
James Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) had a dozen saves for the Bucs, while Nick Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) blocked nine Buccaneer shots.
The Bucs are back on the field Wednesday when they will host UMass Dartmouth at 3:30 pm. Wentworth has its home opener on Saturday against New England College at 1:00 p.m.
