Inclement Weather Cancels Baseball
(March 11) The heavy rain and severe thunderstorms that have been moving through Central Florida today and the forecast of more inclement weather for Friday has cancelled the baseball team's doubleheader against WPI scheduled for Friday afternoon. The Leopards will conclude their spring trip on Saturday with a doubleheader against Clark.
Baseball Wins Fourth Straight Game
    (March 11) Leading 10-7 after seven innings, the Wentworth baseball team held on to defeat St. Joseph's, 11-10, for their fourth straight win. The Leopards belted out a season-high 18 hits, with eight of them coming between juniors Doug Papuga (Branford, Conn.) and Ben Danker (Branford, Conn.), who each had four hits, while Papuga drove in three runs. Junior Mike Diodato (Asbury, N.J.) scored four runs and drove in two runs. Senior Mo Gardner (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) picked up the win, allowing four runs on 10 hits, while striking out five in five innings of work. Senior Scott Borges (Westport, Mass.) earned the save after a allowed a run and struck out two batters in the ninth.
Softball Wraps Up Spring Trip
(March 11) The Leopard softball team fell behind by a 5-0 score in the first inning and could not receover as Juniata defeated Wentworth, 9-1, in the Leopards' final game of their annual spring trip. Junior Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) would score Wentworth's lone run of the day. The Leopards head north with a 3-5 record.
Leopards Improve to 3-4 With Split
 (March 10) Wentworth's softball team improved to 3-4 on its spring trip after splitting a pair of games. The Leopards dropped the first game of the day, 10-2, to Penn State-Altoona before shutting out St. Elizabeth, 5-0. In the loss to PSU-Altoona, freshman Krysta Cunha (New Bedford, Mass.) had two hits while sophomore Michele Harrington (New Paltz, N.Y.) drove in both runs. Wentworth got a two hit, five-strikeout shutout from senior Caylee Johanson (Windsor, Conn.) and a pair of RBI from senior Cherie Dunn (Acton, Mass.).
Late Inning Heroics Propel Baseball Team to 6-5 Win
   (March 9) For the second straight game junior Ben Danker (Branford, Conn.) drove in the winning run as his one-out double oin the bottom of the ninth capped off a three-run rally as the Wentworth baseball team won its third straight game with a 6-5 win over Albion. The Leopards held a 2-0 lead before the Britons would take leads of 4-2 and 5-3 before the Leopards won the game in their final at bat. Danker and senior Pete Oggeri (Sandy Hook, Conn.) each had two hits and two RBI, with Oggeri hitting his first home run of the season. Sophomore Kyle Cruz (Burlington, Conn.) earned his first career win after pitching the ninth inning. Classmate Adam Farrar (Newport, Vt.) allowed one run on three hits, while striking out a career-high nine, in 5.2 innings.
Softball Team Drops Pair of Games
 (March 9) Wentworth's softball team dropped a pair of games to fall below .500 at 2-3. The first game of the day saw Wentworth drop a 4-0 decision to Penn State Berks, while the second game of the day saw the Leopards drop a 10-2 decision to Juniata. In the first game Wentworth mustered just two hits while senior Caylee Johanson (Windsor, Conn.) took the loss. Game two saw Wentworth get just three hits with junior Lizz Harvey (McConnellsburg, Pa.) drove in one run.
Leopards Sweep Newbury to Even Record at 2-2
     (March 8) Junior Ben Danker's (Branford, Conn.) pinch-hit squeeze bunt in the top of the seventh inning of game two snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the Leopard baseball team to a 2-1 win over Newbury, which gave Wentworth a sweep of the doubleheader, having taken the first game, 7-4. In game one the Leopards used a five-run fourth inning to snap a 1-1 tie. Junior Matt Dannenhoffer (Bethany, Conn.) went the distance, allowing zero earned runs on four hits and struck out eight. Junior Jake McManus (Hopkinton, N.H.) and sophomore Conner Flisnik (Marcy, N.Y.) each had a pair of hits, while junior Doug Papuga (Branford, Conn.) had two hits and two RBI. Papuga went six innings to pick up the win in the second game, allowing three hits and striking out 10. Senior Scott Borges (Westport, Mass.) picked up the save, pitching the seventh inning.
Softball Splits Pair of Games
 (March 8) The Leopard softball team improved to 2-1 on the year after splitting apair of games. Wentworth fell to Penn State-Altoona, 9-8, in nine innings, before shutting out the College of St. Elizabeth, 10-0, in five innings. In the loss to Penn State-Altoona, Wentworth held a 6-5 lead going into the last of the sixth inning before the Lions tied the game. Wentworth went ahead, 8-6, in the top of the ninth, but allowed Penn State-Altoona to score three times in the bottom of the inning to take the win. Freshman Krysta Cunha (New Bedford, Mass.) was 4-for-5 with three runs scored, while junior Lizz Harvey (McConnelsburg, Pa.) drove in five runs. In the second game of the day, junior Amanda Schiffer (Seymour, Conn.) hurled a one-hit shutout, while striking out eight. Cunha and junior Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) led Wentworth's offense with three hits each.
Oneonta Sweeps Baseball Team
  (March 7) Faced with a 6-0 deficit after an inning of play in the first game, the Leopard baseball team couldn't catch up to Oneonta as the Red Dragons took the first game by a 14-9 final score and completed the sweep in the second game with a 6-0 triumph. The first game saw junior Mike Diodato (Asbury, N.J.) for 3-for-4 with three RBI, while juniors Matt Jordan (Concord, N.H.) and Doug Papuga (Branford, Conn.) each had a pair of hits and two runs scored. In the second game, Wentworth could muster just three hits - one past the first inning.
Softball Opens 2010 Season With Win
 (March 7) The Leopard softball team opened the 2010 campiagn with an 8-1 win over Keystone College. A 0-0 game was broken open in the third inning when Wentworth plated four runs and never looked back. Junior Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored to pace the offense while senior Caylee Johanson (Windsor, Conn.) allowed just one run on four hits and struck out six batters to pick up the win.
Rifle Team Captures Expert Division Championship
   (March 6) The Wentworth mixed air rifle team captured the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championhip in the Expert Division by outshooting the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia, 2213-2202. Junior Kirstin Torento (Higganum, Conn.) was the Leopards' high shooter with a 558, while sophomore Angela Ngo (Chelmsford, Mass.) was right behind her with a 557. The championship was the first for the squad since the 2004 season. The women's air rifle team, which had also qualified for the championships, fell to Virginia Military Institute, 2143-2205. Junior Susan Wing (Rutland, Vt.) and sophomore Elizabeth Wu (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) shot 524 and 506, respectively.

(March 5) The Office of Sports Information is pleased to announce the department's new blog, Leopard Tracks. This blog will go hand and hand with the Athletics website as well as providing additional information such as audio and video clips and many other long-range ideas.
Skylur Jameson Named ECAC Northeast Player of the Year; Olitch, Shaun Jameson Also Honored
  (March 4) On the heels of picking up the 2009 ECAC Northeast Rookie of the Year award, sophomore forward Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) picked up some more hardware as he was named the 2010 ECAC Northeast Player of the Year and was named First Team All-ECAC Northeast. Jameson scored 18 goals and assisted on 25 others for 43 points to lead the Leopard hockey team to a 20-5-1 record and the ECAC Northeast Regular Season Championship. Joining Jameson on the first team were senior forward Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alberta) and freshman defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.), who also earned a spot on the all-rookie team. Olitch scored 42 points on 21 goals and 21 assists and ends his career as the program's fifth all-time leading scorer with 135 points. Shaun Jameson led all defenseman in scoring with nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points.

Hockey Team Upset in ECAC Northeast Semifinals
 (March 3) The Leopard hockey team saw its bid to appear in its third ECAC Northeast title game in the last four years come to a halt as top-seeded Wentworth was upset by sixth-seeded Johnson & Wales, 5-3,in a semifinal round matchup. The Leopards led, 1-0, after one period but surrendered four second-period goals to trail 4-2 after 40 minutes. After cutting the lead to 4-3 early in the third period,
Wentworth allowed an insurance goal with 10:53 remaining. Sophomore forward Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska) had a goal and an assist, while sophomore forward Mike Paglino (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.) had two assists. Wentworth finishes the season at 20-5-1.
Men's Volleyball Runs Streak to Seven
  (March 3) Wentworth's men's volleyball team ran its win streak to six with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-28) win at Lesley. The improved Wentworth's record to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in NECVA New England play. Juniors Lowell Jesmer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Dan Mulvey (Halifax, Mass.) each recorded 11 kills, while junior Tom Ceurvels (Weymouth, Mass.) added 10 kills and 13 digs in the win.
Freshman Tyler Moriarty (Wilbraham, Mass.) had 42 assists in the three games.
Upset-Minded Leopards Fall Short at Eastern Connecticut
 (March 3) Wentworth's men's basketball team led by four points with 8:26 remaining before a 15-7 spurt by Eastern Connecticut gave the Warriors a four-point lead and eventually a 64-59 win over the Leopards in the opening round of the 2010 ECAC New England Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. Senior forward Matt Abbott (Falmouth, Mass.) closed out his career by connecting on seven of 10 shots for 16 points, to go along with nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Sophomore guard Adam Dombrowski (Dunstable, Mass.) chipped in with 13 for Wentworth, which finishes the season at 15-12.
Lacrosse Opens 2010 Season With Loss at Babson
(March 3) Wentworth's lacrosse team opened the 2010 season with a 12-4 loss at Babson. The host Beavers jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Freshman attackman Mark Pappas (Worcester, Mass.) scored two of the Leopards' four goals, while sophomore midfielder Mike Swenson (East Lyme, Conn.) picked up 13 ground balls and won 13 of 18 face-offs.
Six Leopards Earn TCCC Honors
   (February 23) Tuesday morning The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced its annual all-conference teams and award winners and the Wentworth men's and women's basketball teams combined to have six members its respective programs earn post-season accolades. In men's basketball, junior forward Sam Herrick (Duxbury, Mass.) was named First Team All-TCCC, while senior forwards Matt Abbott (Falmouth, Mass.) and Shane West (Milford, N.H.) each earned a spot on the second team. A dditionally, head coach Tom Devitt was voted the league's coach of the year. On thewomen's side, seniorguard Michelle Fauci (Boxford, Mass.) was named the league's defensive player of the year and a Second Team All-TCCC selection, while sophomore forward Kirsten Vallone (Avon, N.Y.) also earned a spot on the second team.
