The STEP Undeclared courses are designed for International and Permanent Resident students whose first language in not English. These students have demonstrated strengths in mathematics and science, but need additional work in English and college study skills before completing their studies in one of the Institute's baccalaureate programs. The STEP year provides course work in applied communication, reading, speaking, English language skills, and American culture. Based on the recommendation of the student's faculty advisor, STEP students may also take additional courses to fulfill their college mathematics, computer programming/literacy, science, and/or technical subject area requirements based on their performance in the STEP year and on their ability to meet course prerequisites. Students continue in a major approved by a department head upon successful completion of the STEP year.
