BMT Accreditation Information

Management of Technology &
Project Management Programs Accredited by IACBE

by Leon Cort and Karen Britton

Wentworth's Management of Technology (BMT) and DPCS Project Management Programs both received accreditation by The International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) during the fall of 2000. IACBE is an accrediting body uniquely appropriate to the mission, goals and objectives of these programs. Its accreditation process is mission-driven and outcomes assessment based, a refreshing departure from the restrictive prescriptive standards so prevalent among accrediting bodies today. Accreditation by the IACBE provides sanction of the flexibility, pedagogy and delivery of the MGM Program by a nationally recognized body. Peer review also provides validation that quality teaching and learning exist in the Program, and also enhances its integrity, growth and development.

In October 2000, the Management of Technology Program began the process which it hoped would culminate in its full accreditation. The BMT Program exposes students to the functional areas of management, and allows students to acquire the various managerial and technological skills necessary to successfully administer human, natural, and technical resources within an organization. Students are engaged in a concentrated study of financial analysis, marketing principles, operations management, organizational behavior, and legal aspects of business. In addition to course work, they are also required to complete two semesters of cooperative work in order to fulfill graduation requirements. The Department of Humanities Social Sciences and Management anticipates that the granting of full accreditation to the BMT Program will have a positive impact upon all current and prospect management programs of Wentworth.

The Project Management Program offered by the Division of Continuing and Professional Studies aims to produce leaders for business, industry and government. Students are introduced to contemporary theories of management, leadership and teamwork, as well as accounting, computer software systems, marketing, finance and communications skills. Courses in planning, policy and practice are geared to running today's companies. Graduates of this program have been hired by a broad range of companies including computer, electronic, health, and manufacturing firms. Possible job opportunities include project managers, business analysts, project engineers, operations coordinators and field service engineers.
