Even The Monkey

Here's a story:

when I was a boy,
around eight,
my grandmother
took me to the sportsman's show.

ted williams was there
casting flies
to trout
in an indoor pool.

the blender salesman
hypnotized me with
his babble
his relentless
polished patter,
agile banter

'even the monkey' he said,
my grandmother pulling me away,
'does not eat the skin of the banana'
